AMD Releases X85 Processors (Bring On The 2.6GHz Chips!)
By
AMD just launched the latest dual core processors, the X85 parts. They are the 185, 285 and 885 models, all running at 2.6GHz. That makes these parts more or less FX-60s in a new package!
The top two parts are available now, or at least really soon, and are priced at $2149 for the 885 and $1051 for the 285. The 185 is set for availability in 30 days with no price listed. Call it a hunch, but since the 285 costs about the same as the FX-60, and supports 2S, there is little room for an expensive 185 in the lineup. If AMD undercuts the FX-60 by a bunch, they will sell a lot of 185s, but FX-60s will be about as useful as a third nipple sitting on the shelf.
