AMD just released their fastest desktop graphics card that they have ever brought to market. Big Navi was rumored to be a monster back before the GeForce RTX 30 series came out and they seem to be spot on. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT dominated the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. It did very well against the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards, even topping the performance chart in some game titles an benchmarks.
When it comes to performance the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT was about 10% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. Paying a 54% premium to get 10% more performance is going to be a tough sell for many gamers, but this is a flagship product. People will buy it because it is the fastest card that Radeon has on the market today. It also could be seen as some as a value play to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 that cost $1,499. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT costs $499 less and beat the GeForce RTX 3090 in some game titles like Borderlands 3 at 1080P, 1440P and 4K resolutions. AMD still has some ground to make up on the ray tracing front, but they have an impressive card here!
AMD wanted to finish 2020 on a high note and the introduction of the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT seems to be a good to do that for the Radeon team. They’ve delivered their first truly impressive high-end card in a number of years and basically more or less caught up to AMD in everything but ray tracing capabilities. AMD will greatly improve their ray tracing performance when AMD RDNA 3 arrives, but that will likely be in late 2021 or early 2022. AMD and NVIDIA have both released a slew of new graphics cards for the high-end GPU market, so now the hard part is going to be finding one in-stock to purchase.
