AMD Radeon R9 Fury X Graphics Card Pictured
Ryan Shrout over at PC Perspective got hooked up with pictures of the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X Graphics Card late last night that are certainly worth looking at. He claims the images came from an anonymous Facebook user.
The images he was sent appear to be from a warehouse and we finally see the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X pictured in all its glory with the closed loop liquid cooler attached. The first thing that jumps out to us is the thickness of the radiator as it is huge! Ryan things it looks to be about 45mm thick, but the cooling fan appears to be in-set, so the radiator isn’t really as thick as it looks at first glance. This single water cooler needs to keep the Fiji XT GPU, 4GB of HBM memory and the GPU/Memory power phases from overheating. There doesn’t appear to be any fan cooling the PCB, so everything must be kept cool by a large full coverage water block. The water cooler tubing and power cables appear to be sleeved and enter the butt end of the Radeon R9 Fury X 4GB video card.
The AMD Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card has no ventilation holes in the backplate like the images that leaked out yesterday. You can also see the three DisplayPort connectors and single HMDI connector on the dual-slot card. It looks like DVI video connectors are finally going away.
The two 8-pin PCIe power connectors are located along the top edge of the stubby card. This means the card and water cooler is capable of pulling 375 Watts of power from the system, but that certainly won’t the cards total or typical TDP when you look at the spec sheet when it is announced as there is always headroom left for overclocking. Then again, we all know that AMD has ignored PCIe power specializations on video cards in the past (Radeon R9 295X2 for example).
The AMD Radeon R9 Fury X looks to be a fairly tiny video card and we can’t wait to see how it performs. We also are tempted to see how it fits and performs in smaller cases as there are many gamers these days using Mini-ITX systems
