AMD Radeon HD 7990 Release Date Pushed Back to Late August

By

Last month, we reported on the upcoming AMD HD 7990 dual GPU graphics card, which was due to be launched this month, around now. Unfortunately, it now appears to have been pushed back a month, to late August. Also, it looks like the specification may have been revised a bit too. The card will be powered by two Tahiti XT GPUs, rather than the improved XT2 and it will have four mini DisplayPorts plus two dual DVI ports. Interestingly, auxiliary power won’t be provided by two 8-pin power connectors, but by four 6-pins instead. Finally, the same PLX chip used to handle SLI in NVIDIA’s GTX 690 will handle CrossFire in the HD 7990. It’s not clear if a 12GB model will be released.
