AMD Radeon HD 6950 & 6970 CrossFire Video Card Reviews
Power Consumption
For testing power consumption, we took our test system and plugged it
into a Kill-A-Watt power meter. For idle numbers, we allowed the system
to idle on the desktop for 15 minutes and took the reading. For load
numbers we measured the peak wattage used by the system while running
the OpenGL benchmark FurMark 1.8.2 at 1280×1024 resolution.
Power Consumption Results: The AMD Radeon HD 6950 and 6970 do very well with their idle power consumption as both cards are between 110-111W at idle. At full load the cards consume quite a bit more power but, as you can see, far less than their direct competitors from NVIDIA. We aren’t sure why our 6950 CrossFire setup used more power than a 6970 CrossFire setup at idle, but we’ll chalk that up to a driver issue or our secondary card had a ton of leakage!
