AMD Holding Tech Showcase in Hawaii For New GPUs in September

By

Could the AMD Radeon HD 8000 series of desktop video cards be making their debut in September? The upcoming AMD Radeon HD 8000 series video cards will be based on GPUs that have codename Hawaii. This means Hawaii XT, Hawaii Pro, Hawaii LE and so on.

Rumors of these cards have been floating around since June 2013, but it appears that these rumors could have been true. Yesterday, AMD sent out invites to a number of sites inviting them to a special technical showcase running September 23-26, 2013 in Hawaii. AMD will be announcing their latest GPU codenamed Hawaii in Hawaii! How cool is that?

We can only speculate that AMD will be announcing the AMD Radeon HD 8000 series at the event there and possibly show some unseen sneak previews of Battlefield 4. We already know that Battlefield 4 is an AMD game title and that the Radeon HD 7990 ‘Malta’ video card powered the first public demo of the game. Maybe AMD will be announcing that Battlefield 4 will be included in the game bundle with the ‘Hawaii’ series of video cards! In the past AMD has held events on the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, so maybe they’ll be upping the ante and doing something on Battleship USS Missouri that just happens to be based in Hawaii. Being based in Missouri, Legit Reviews can only hope!

It should also be noted that some sites are saying that the codenames are Volcanic and Pirate Islands and that the new Radeon series will be the Radeon HD 9000 series due to the Radeon HD 8000 series being OEM only.

  • Added AMD Volcanic Islands/Crystal: Maui, Iceland/Topaz, Tonga/Amethyst.
  • Added AMD Pirate Islands: Bermuda, Fiji, Treasure.
  • Added AMD Carrizo, Amur, Bhavani.

So, let’s recap here. We expect AMD to be announcing their next generation of video cards at the end of September during an event in Hawaii along with the details of their new game bundle. What we don’t know is when the cards will be released to the public. Does that mean that we can expect cards to be available to purchase in October? We’ll find out next month!
