AMD Cuts Prices on A-Series APUs and FX CPUs to Compete With Intel Ivy Bridge

By

We heard rumors that Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) would be slashing prices on their desktop processors in order to compete with Intel Ivy Bridge processors and that is exactly what happened yesterday. AMD quietly slashed the price of the most of their FX series processors. The FX4100 and FX-4170 prices remain the same, but the FX-6100 and FX-6200 six-core processors saw $10 price reductions. The major price cut happened to the companies 8-core processors as AMD reduced the price of the AMD FX-8120 by $20 and the FX-8150 by $40. This means the eight-core flagship offering from AMD (FX-8150) can now be had for $205! That is a 16% price cut for that processor, which is significant!

AMD Price Cut

AMD also cut prices on all of the companies A-Series Llano APUs yesterday as well. The cuts there ranged from $10 to $30, with processors like the AMD A8-3850 getting a 22% price reduction. The AMD A8-3850 went from $135 to $105, which is an impressive price point for such a capable processor! AMD didn’t comment as to why they cut processor prices, but Intel just launched new 22nm Ivy Bridge processors and we suspect this is the companies price adjustment.
