AMD Confirms Polaris GPUs Coming Mid-Year
Last night on Reddit the Radeon Technologies Group hosted a Q&A and allowed Reddit users to ask anything they wanted. Nearly 1,000 comments were made on topics ranging on topics like linux drivers, Vulkan, FreeSync, GPUOpen, Polaris, Fury X2, VR, Zen and DirectX 12. The AMD answers were made by a technical Marketing executive ‘AMD_Robert’ and the AMD Gaming Community Manager ‘AMD-DOWNL1NK’. We took a quick look at the thread this morning and saw a few things of interest. For example, AMD Polaris GPU’s are still on track for a mid-2016 launch and that Fury X2 is still coming to market. AMD did not mention any specifics on the upcoming cards, but did say that on a future AMA before the launch that more will be disclosed. We were hoping to see some Polaris architecture nuggets sprinkled in throughout the night, but that was not the case. AMD also promised a Linux driver soon and said that it wouldn’t be months away.
