AMD plans to launch a dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processor on August 1 priced at US$345, a third less than its current lowest priced dual-core CPU, the sources indicated. The new Athlon 64 X2 Processor would be called a 3800+ and is far cheaper than the current 4200+ that commands $537 on the market. While $345 is not “budget” it is far better than before.
AMD will also launch the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which will be the cheapest dual-core processor in its Athlon 64 X2 line, according to sources at motherboard makers. The unit price of the 3800+ will be US$345, as compared to US$537 for the 4200+, AMD?s current entry-level dual-core part.
