Amazon Appstore Now Live in the UK & Western Europe

By

The Amazon Appstore for Android phones and tablets, previously for the US market only, is now available to European customers in a version localized to each specific country – UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. The Appstore has been available to European customers since last September, but everything was in dollars and the content was geared towards US customers.

This now changes, with customers in the supported European countries seeing prices in their own currency with the apps offered tailored more for them than their US counterparts. Also, the timing is significant, because “the Appstore launch ahead of a press event suggests that the European launch of an Amazon tablet such as the Kindle Fire or its likely replacement could be on the cards”. The new UK Amazon Appstore can be accessed here.

At present, Amazon does not have any tablet devices on sale in Europe. The Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Keyboard have all found an audience in the UK, where it has become the dominant brand for ebook readers.
