ALLIANCE WINS THE INTERNATIONAL 2013
Record Prize Purse Driven By Interactive Compendium
August 11, 2013 – Alliance are the winners of The International 2013 Dota 2 Championship, earning a prize of over $1.4 million.
The five-day event culminated in a dramatic, five-game match featuring Alliance vs. Na’Vi (Natus Vincere) competing in front of a capacity crowd at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA.
For the first time, the prize pool was bolstered beyond Valve’s contribution by Dota 2 player participation in the Interactive Compendium. With the community’s involvement in the Compendium, the total prize pool was pushed from $1.6 million to over $2.8 million.
The International was launched two years ago in Cologne, Germany during Gamescom with 16 of the most elite Dota 2 teams competing in a group stage, double elimination playoff format for a grand prize of $1 million.
Dota 2 is a free-to-play, online action strategy game created by Valve (Bellevue, WA based makers of multiple game franchises and the leading online distribution platform, Steam).
This year’s tournament was again broadcast worldwide, free of charge, with play-by-play commentary in multiple languages.
