Adobe To Limit Updates & Downloads Of Flash Player For Android Starting August 15th

Adobe will, as of August 15th, limit access to Flash Player updates in the Google Play Store on Android Devices. Those with Flash Player installed already can access updates, while devices without Flash Player will no longer be able to download it. Adobe originally announced back in November of last year that they would focus primarily on Flash Player for PC browsers and mobile apps using Adobe AIR. As of Android 4.1 there will be no certified implementations for Flash Player. This is because Flash Player integrates into a device’s multimedia subsystem and browser tightly. The simple fact is that in order to make sure Flash Player works well, certification will be required with Adobe’s partners and as of Android 4.1 there will be no more certified devices. If a device doesn’t have Flash Player provided by the manufacturer, it usually means Flash Player is uncertified. Certified devices of course have received extensive testing to make sure everything functions properly. As of Android 4.1, Adobe has stopped developing and testing Flash Player and with that comes potential problems as devices are far more likely to be incompatible with Flash Player. So if you really love Flash Player on your Android device, make sure your device is certified for Flash Player and stick to Android 4.0.
