Adobe Ends Development on Mobile Browser Flash – HTML5 Wins!

By

ZDNet reports that Adobe has ceased the development of Flash Player for browsers on mobile devices citing an upcoming announcement from Adobe. Instead, Adobe will focus its development efforts on mobile apps and HTML5. This is quite a hit for Android and its developers, since Flash support on Android devices has been highlighted as one of the advantages of that platform over Apples iOS. This obviously goes down as a win for Apple as they have always bashed Flash. UPDATE: Adobe has made it official.

“Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.”
