Rumor: AMD Llano APU Delayed Till 2H 2011

By

AMD reportedly may delay the production of its latest Fusion accelerate processing unit (APU) codenamed Llano from the company’s original schedule of the first half 2011 to July of 2011 and mass production is unlikely to start until August or September due to Globalfoundries’ lower-than-expected yield rate for its 32nm process, according to sources from motherboard players. In response to the rumor, AMD declined to comment on unannounced products.

AMD has scheduled two platforms for its new APU – Brazos and Sabine. For the Brazos platform, the company is pushing Ontario processors for netbooks and Zacate processor for mainstream notebooks and the entry-level desktop PC market. The processors are manufactured under Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC’s) 40nm process and are already shipping with about 100 related products to be showcased at CES 2011.
