Twitter Starts Posting Ads in User’s Tweets

By

Twitter has started putting ads in users streams calling them “Promoted Tweets”. Twitter partnered with HootSuite, a 3rd-Party Twitter client to test this new service that will initially be seen by limited numbers of users and their followers. Twitter said that they are attempting to show only ads that are relevant to users and that it will expand in the future only if the idea takes off with users and advertisers.

Marketers could already buy a “Promoted Tweet” at the top of searches on Twitter.com. But this step gives advertisers a spot in the timeline to promote themselves.

In a blog post, Twitter said: “We’re carefully looking at how Twitter users react to and engage with Promoted Tweets in the timeline. We want to display Promoted Tweets in a way that’s both useful and authentic to the Twitter experience.”
