Best Buy Charging $30 for Free PS3 Firmware Update

A New York Best Buy is “kindly” offering customers to upgrade their PS3 to the latest firmware for a low, low fee of $30. They tout all of the benefits that the most recent firmware offers such as elimination of bugs and glitches. Of course, the more tech savvy crowd knows that this can be done at home for free so this leads many to feel that Best Buy, at least this one store, is taking advantage of naive customers.

Best Buy’s Geek Squad division often comes under a lot of scrutiny for high-priced services. Earlier this year, The Consumerist called out Best Buy’s worthless $40 optimization service for new computers. Today, however, the electronics retail giant is being called out for PS3 firmware updates according to DualShockers.
