Motherboard Makers Cut Orders For PC Components

Orders for PC related ICs from motherboard makers in June will be definitely lower than those received in May, as the order visibility from the notebook segment is also sliding, according to sources at Taiwan-based IC design houses. The correction is expected to last into July before staging an upturn in August-September, the sources stated.

IC orders from Asustek Computer have been reduced after the company lowered recently its shipment targets of motherboards and notebooks for the third quarter of 2010, the sources indicated. Other first-tier motherboard vendors Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) are also expected to see their performance stay flat in the third quarter, dragging down demand for PC ICs, the sources added.
