Viacom to Pull Comedy Central Shows Down From Hulu
Hulu, which streams television, film, and original programming has announced that media giant Viacom, which owns Paramount Pictures and MTV Networks, will remove Comedy Central content from the Hulu video portal as of March 9. After almost 2 years, episodes of popular Comedy Central programs like “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” will no longer be available on the ad-supported Hulu, a joint venture between News Corp., NBC Universal, and Disney. The Daily Show and Colbert Report have been some of Hulus most watched shows since debuting in June of 2008. Of course you can still get your daily dose of Comedy Central content directly from comedycentral.com.
The main reason for this revolves around Hulu’s video-embedding technology, which allows users to pick specific parts of shows for sharing on the Web. By comparison, Comedy Central only makes available a few choice clips alongside full episodes.
