Mr. Maloney, a Briton who has served as Intel’s sales chief and held a series of positions at the chip maker, is part of a troika of executive vice presidents who were given new responsibilities in a shake-up last September. Mr. Maloney was named general manager in charge of business operations of the Intel Architecture Group, which oversees all the company’s major products. Analysts at that time said the reorganization made Mr. Maloney a front-runner to eventually succeed Paul Otellini, Intel’s chief executive officer.
