Intel Atom N470 1.83GHz Processor Officially Released
Today Intel introduced the Intel Atom processor N470. This new, faster single-core Atom processor for netbooks runs at 1.83GHz, with 512k of L2 cache and DDR2-667 support. This is great news as the Intel Atom processor has been ‘stuck’ at 1.60 to 1.66GHz for a long time now, so if they can squeak out more performance and keep the power consumption numbers the close same then that is a win for everyone! Actually, we contacted Intel and found out that the N470 has a TDP (Thermal Dynamic Profile) of 6.5W, versus 5.5W for the N450. So a 1W higher TDP for an extra 170MHz of compute power. This new, faster Atom processor for netbooks has integrated graphics built directly into the CPU to help enable improved performance and smaller, more energy-efficient designs for the popular netbook category. The single core Atom processor runs at 1.83GHz, with 512k of L2 cache and DDR2-667 support. Major OEMs are expected to introduce systems based on this processor over the coming months to further differentiate their netbook offerings with a higher frequency to deliver additional responsiveness for online and basic computing tasks.
