Asustek Computer is aiming for annual notebook shipments of 20 million units in 2010, surpassing Toshiba and Lenovo to become the fifth largest vendor worldwide, according to Shien-yueh Hsu, general manager of Asustek’s notebook division.

Of the 20 million units, Asustek expects 12 million units will be traditional notebooks, with the other eight million units Eee PCs. Asustek recently launched a USB 3.0-ready notebook and expects related models to account for 30% of its total shipments. Asustek is currently using chips from NEC to provide USB 3.0 capability, but is planning to gradually turn to using chips from its subsidiary ASMedia Technology around May or June, Hsu noted.
