AOL to Drop Digg-Like News From Netscape

By

AOL is reportedly again revamping its Netscape.com Web portal by dropping a year-old “social news” component in which readers submitted and voted on news stories and blog entries to determine how they’re ranked on the site. If this all sounds familiar to you, well it did to Netscape and Digg users as well. Apparently AOL/Netscape users do indeed want to use this type of social networking, just not at Netscape!

Somewhere, Digg founder Kevin Rose is probably smirking over a pint of Guinness as Netscape Director Tom Drapeau announced the end of the company’s Digg-clone experiment. Drapeau said, “we specifically heard that our users do have a desire for a social news experience, but simply didn’t expect to find it on Netscape.com.”
