iFixit Teardown Shows Surface Pro X to be Very Repairable

Each new generation of tech device that launches is taken in by the gang at iFixit and then ripped apart. The most recent device to go under the knife at iFixit was the Microsoft Surface Pro X ARM-powered tablet. One of the key features is the ability to upgrade the SSD on the tablet when needed.

All that’s needed to gain access to the storage is a paperclip. The SSD pulls out, and a new one can be snapped in. The screen needs no heat or solvents to be removed. Every screw the device has can be removed with a Torx screwdriver reports Engadget.

“It would seem that Microsoft has placed at least one foot on the repairability trainbetween this Pro X and the Laptop 3, we can hardly believe all the repair-focused changes they’ve made,” wrote iFixit.

The Surface Pro X landed a repairability score of 6 out of 10. To compare the iPad Pro scored 3 out of 10. Repairability can be a big deal for those who break a device and don’t want to spend the money to have it fixed by the manufacturer.
