Google Maps is Getting an Incognito Mode
The Google Chrome browser has had an incognito mode for a long time that prevents whatever you are looking for from turning up in search history. It also stops the saving of cookies, site data, and form information when active. The big privacy worry for many is Google Maps.
Word is that Google is getting ready to bring Incognito mode to Maps. The move was announced at Google I/O this week. The mode will be accessible via the new Google Account menu. When in Incognito Mode for Maps, none of the places you search for will be linked to the account.
A gray bar at the top of the app, featuring the Incognito icon we are used to, will show when the mode is active. While Google announced the mode was coming, it hasn’t said when exactly the mode will land.
All Google has said so far is that it is “coming soon.” With law enforcement trying to get data from Google on where people have been that is stored form Google Maps we wonder if Incognito mode will stop that data storage.
