Microsoft Killing Band Support, Offers Refunds to Some

Microsoft launched its original foray into the health device market with the Microsoft Band in 2014. The device was a competitor to Fitbit and other similar products. A second Band device launched in 2015 before being discontinued in 2016.

Fans of the Band hardware wondering when a new version might debut, the answer is never. Microsoft has anncuend that it is pulling out of the market and shuttering all Band services. The end of service for the devices will be May 31 reports Android Police.

On that date, the Microsoft Health Dashboard will close, and Band companion apps will be removed from all stores. After that, there will still be limited functionality, but if you ever need to reset your device, it will be unusable after that date.

Microsoft is offering a refund on some Band devices with a couple of conditions. The first is if your Band is still under warranty, you can have a refund. The second is any user of any Band who had performed a data sync between December 1, 2018, and March 1, 2019, refunds will be given to those people. Original Band owners can get $79.99, and Band 2 owners can get $175, neither refund is the full MSRP.
