Skyrim Mod That Generates $33,000 Monthly Stands Accused of Stealing Code
Skyrim fans might be familiar with the team of developers who are working on a mod called Skyrim Together that allows players to go online and play the game together. That team has faced accusations that is stole code for this mod from another team.
The other team is behind a mod called SKSE or Skyrim Script Extender. The animosity between the two teams is so bad that the SKSE team added verbiage to its code license that reads:
“Due to continued intentional copyright infringement and total disrespect for modder etiquette, the Skyrim Online team is explicitly disallowed from using any of these files for any purpose.”
Skyrim Together is currently making over $33,000 monthly via Patreon reports Kotaku. Eventually, the Skyrim Together folks admitted to having used code from the other team and says they are trying to remove it all. A stable version of Skyrim Together is aiming at launch this year, but the team says they are far from a real release right now.
A Skyrim Together team member wrote, “We have had disagreements with the SKSE folks in the past, I have tried to communicate with them but they have never replied, so we stopped using their code. There might be some leftover code from them in there that was overlooked when we removed it, it isnt as simple as just deleting a folder, mainly our fault because we rushed some parts of the code. Anyway we are going to make sure to remove what might have slipped through the cracks for the next patch.”
