Samsung Sound on Display Tech aims at CES 2019 Debut
CES 2019 kicks off in days, and like each year the show is held, there will be some cool stuff unveiled at the show. Samsung is tipped to show off a new screen technology at the show called Sound on Display. The tech would eliminate the need for an earpiece speaker.
That speaker is one of the reasons that the notch has been used heavily on smartphones. Samsung’s Sound on Display tech will reportedly allow the screen itself to produce sound and increase the screen-to-body ratio reports Android Authority.
Samsung isn’t the only screen maker who is expected to show up at CES 2019 with this sort of tech. Both Korean and Chinese screen makers are expected to show off Sound on Displays during the show with some seen on working smartphone and TV prototype devices.
The tech turns the smartphone body into a diaphragm to allow the screen to vibrate and produce sound when the ear is placed against it. The assumption is that the screen tech will only be used to replace the earpiece speaker and that a down firing speaker for audio for games and video would remain.
