Nintendo Creators Program is Ending and New Guidelines are Rolling Out
Nintendo has long run something it called the Creators program that was essentially a way to restrict video sharing and allow Nintendo to grab a chunk of the profits from any creators who made a video with Nintendo games in it. Nintendo is closing down that annoying and controversial program at the end of 2018.
Nintendo said, “We’re making it easier for creative fans to show their love for Nintendo and monetize videos that include Nintendo game content.” The new guidelines will be closer to the rules that Sony and Microsoft use reports Engadget. The new Nintendo rules can be found here.
Essentially Nintendo still has the power to take down videos that it decides breaks its rules. However, creators who monetize videos on all platforms can post videos of games without fighting Nintendo. The rules do block publishing of raw gameplay video with no commentary added or videos of leaked games.
This is good news for streamers who have avoided Nintendo properties. It will make it easier for streamers to make money and could mean more notoriety for Nintendo games and systems.
