Epic Games Kills Switch Fortnite Video Capture Mode

Gamers who play Fortnite on the Switch might have noticed something missing recently. Epic Games issued an update for Switch gamers that removed the video capture feature of the game. The reason the video capture capability was removed was to improve the performance of the game.

The video capture mode on Switch allowed gamers to record 30-second blocks of footage to share with others. Epic Games wrote, “You may have noticed we’ve disabled the Video Capture feature on Nintendo Switch as of the v5.40.2 client update. This was done for performance and stability reasons as we’ve been seeing a high rate of Out of Memory related crashes. Disabling this feature saves a significant amount of RAM while also having a positive effect on overall performance across the board.”

Epic hasnt ruled out bringing the video capture feature back in a future update. However, the feature would be an optional extra for gamers who dont mind potential instability and decreased performance. Fortnite isn’t the only game that has disabled the feature.

There are other titles that have disabled the feature, but Nintendolife doesnt call them out by name. Epic has reportedly talked with Nintendo to address the performance issues.
