Microsoft Says No VR Support for Xbox One
Microsoft had promised in the past that it would be supporting VR games and tech via the Xbox One game console. The software giant is now going back on that promise having stated that it isn’t working on VR support for the console reports CNET. Microsoft also isnt working on mixed reality support for the console either.
CNET quotes Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Mike Nichols saying, “We don’t have any plans specific to Xbox consoles in virtual reality or mixed reality. Our perspective on it has been and continues to be that the PC is probably the best platform for more immersive VR and MR.”
The big change here is that when Microsoft launched the Xbox One X console in 2016 it clearly stated that hardware was to lead the industry into 4K gaming and VR. Phil Spencer promised that the Xbox One X would enable “premiere VR experiences without sacrificing performance.”
A Microsoft spokesperson told CNET in an email, “Because of the opportunity with Windows Mixed Reality, and because we believe the user experience will be best on PC right now, that is where our focus is. We have nothing to share about MR for console at this time.”
