PUBG Devs Sue Epic Games’ Fortnite for Copyright Infringement
The developer behind the game PUBG has finally done what many gamers are surprised didnt happen months ago. The devs have field suit against Fortnite for copyright infringement. PUBG Corp. is based in Korea and the suit was filed there against Epic Games.
As it turns out the suit was filed months ago, all the way back in January and we are just now hearing about it reports Gamespot. The suit was filed in Seoul Central District Court naming Epic Games as the defendant. PUBG Corp. did warn back in September that it was concerned that Fortnite might be replicating the experience that PUBG was known for.
PUBG was the very first battle royale game, though there are many different games out there now. If PUBG Corp. wins the suit, this could well mean suits field against Epic Games and other devs that have jumped on the battle royale bandwagon in recent months. A win in Korea could also mean suits filed in other countries, including the US.
Epic Games and PUBG did have a relationship before Fortnite was launched as PUBG uses the Epic Unreal engine. There is no indication of when this suit might go to trial. Epic Games has offered no official comment on the suit.
