Google is Working on a Social Gaming App Called Arcade
Google is working with a 21-year-old man called Michael Sayman on a social gaming app called Arcade. Arcade is said to launch as early as this summer, assuming the tech needed for the app is available by then. Sayman may be young, but he has been around the tech world since he was a Facebook intern at 17-years-old.
Sayman is now working at Google and Arcade originated in Area 120, a division where Google employees work on internal startups. Google encourages its employees to devote up to 20% of their time to passion projects in Area 120.
Google has given Sayman and Arcade a budget for the project to allow him to design and hire staff. Arcade is said to be in the early phases of development and little is known about the app. A Google spokesman said, “It’s a very early experiment, so there aren’t many details to share right now.”
Arcade is said to have elements of a trivia game, to allow mobile games with friends, and will create accounts using a participant’s phone number. Google has had some success with social gaming coming out of Area 120, Pokmon Go developer Niantic Lab started there reports TechTimes.
