Intel Optane SSD 905P Series Officially Announced

Intel has finally lifted the embargo on the Intel Optane SSD 905P series, which is comprised of 480GB and 960GB capacities featuring either the 2.5″ x 15 U.2 or HHHL PCIe Add-in-Card form factors. Intel confirmed that they are using the same controller as the Intel Optane SSD 900P series, but with firmware refinements and the latest 3D XPoint media they have been able to improve performance. The Intel Optane SSD 905P series offers sequential Read/Write performance of up to 2600/2200 MB/s and random 4K storage performance of up to 575K/550K IOPs. The original Intel Optane SSD 900P series has sequential Read/Write performance of up to 2500/2000 MB/s and random 4K storage performance of up to 550K/500K IOPs, so we are seeing about a 4% increase in read and 10% increase in write speeds on this new series. The 905P series also gets LED lighting, so you get more than just performance gains!

Intel is marketing the Optane SSD 905P towards professional users, content creators and enthusiasts that are doing the most demanding storage workloads in desktop PCs. The Intel Optane SSD 905P has latencies of less than 10s, which ensures end users will have a highly responsive storage solution with killer low queue depth performance.

Intel backs the Optane SSD 905P series with a 10 Drive Write Per Day (DWPD) endurance rating and a 5-year warranty for peace of mind. That means that the lifetime writes for the Intel Optane SSD 905P are 8.76 PB! This is the highest endurance rating for a consumer drive that we have seen.

This Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is $599 for the Intel Optane SSD 905P 480GB and $1,299 for the larger Intel Optane SSD 905P 960GB.
