Nintendo Names New President as Tatsumi Kimishima Retires
Nintendo is having a very good year so far as the Switch has proven to be the most popular console that the company has made. Amidst the booming profits for the gaming company, its president Tatsumi Kimishima has retired. Kimishima is the executive who oversaw the Switch. The new president of the company will be Shuntaro Furukawa.
Furukawa is 46 and has been with Nintendo since 1994 having worked in global marketing and served on the board of Pokmon Co. As he takes the reins of the company Nintendo has forecasted profit of $2.1 billion for the fiscal year through next March.
Nintendo is historically conservative with its guidance so many expect the company to post profits better than that amount. Furukawa was involved with the development of the Switch and has contributed to software development for the company.
Nintendo is now forecasting 20 million Switch units shipped for the fiscal year. That is up significantly from the 15.1 million shipments in the previous year. Switch software titles totaled 63.5 million units sold in the latest year handily beating Nintendo’s prediction of 53 million units reports Bloomberg.
