Capital Wasteland Project has Ended

A couple weeks back an announcement that fans of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 were excited about was made. A group of modders was at work recreating all of Fallout 3 in Fallout 4. A pre-alpha gameplay video turned up and the game looked cool.

Things have come to a complete stop for the game development because the team making the mod has shut the entire works down. Project lead NafNaf_95 wrote, “Recently we have communicated with Bethesda regarding our planned method to implement the voice acting and other audio from Fallout 3 Into the Capital Wasteland. During this conversation, it became clear our planned approach would raise some serious red flags that we had unfortunately not foreseen. This contact resulted in us changing our methods to attempt to continue working.”

The crux of the issue that has led to the end of development on the project is that there was no “fully legal way” for the development to continue. The problem apparently focused on the voice actors that were used in the original game. That content could not be used legally, and the development team figured the game would lose too much by going with different voice actors.

Interestingly the devs are working on a sister project called “Fallout 4: New Vegas” that is pushing ahead reports PC Gamer. This project will use new voice actors to get around the same issue. It’s odd that new voice acting was on the table for New Vegas, but not for Fallout 3 and there is no indication of why that would work for one title and not the other.
