Destiny’s “Music of the Spheres” Leaks Four Years After it was Finished

Way back in 2013 when the original Destiny was released, Bungie composer Marty O’Donnell was wrapping up a work called “Music of the Spheres”. This was supposed to be an eight-part music work that launched along with Destiny, but the music never launched. The work was impressive in part because it was composed with help from Michael Salvatori and Paul McCartney.

After four years of being complete and no one ever hearing it, the music has been leaked online. “Music of the Spheres” resulted in a big fight between Bungie and the composers as Activision didnt use the music in the trailer at E3. Then in 2014 O’Donnell was fired from Bungie and the music was tossed on the shelf.

O’Donnell tweeted, “Years ago, when I was Audio Director at Bungie, I gave away nearly 100 copies of Music of the Spheres. I dont have the authority to give you permission to share MotS. However, no one in the world can prevent me from giving you my blessing.”

Kotaku reports that a teen called Owen Spence who had been trying to recreate “Music of the Spheres” was contacted by someone who owned a copy and has placed it online for all to hear. The music is on Soundcloud until Activision forces it to be taken down figures Kotaku.
