Ataribox Pre-Orders Kick Off Thursday

Atari has announced that the Ataribox will go up for pre-order Thursday. This is the modernized version of the classic Atari console for the ’70s that gamers grew up on. This is the first retro console from Atari as it tries to cash in on the market that Nintendo has so successfully exploited with its Classic edition consoles.

If you are signed up for Ataribox alerts, there will be a chance to score a discount on the retro console. Atari notes that the deal will be “extremely limited” and doesn’t mention exactly what the savings will be. People hoping to pick up an Ataribox will need to fork over much more cash than Nintendo wants for its retro devices.

The console will sell for between $249 and $299 depending on configuration. One potential upside to the Ataribox is that it promises to run old-school retro games and modern games. Presumably, those modern games will be Android titles, but we arent sure on that just yet.

The official ship date is set for some time in the spring of 2018 reports CNET. If the Ataribox ends up being half as popular as the SNES Classic Edition you will need to pre-order to get your hands on one.
