Telltale Games Layoffs Hits 25% of Workforce
Telltale Games is going through a rough patch right now that has resulted in the game company being forced to let go 25% of its workforce reports PlayStationlifestyle. That means that 90 developers have been let go. Telltale is known for narrative-driven games based on franchises like The Walking Dead, Batman, and others.
Changes were expected at the company when Pete Hawley was named the new CEO, Hawley was formerly of Zynga. Hawley explained the layoffs as something the company needed to do to be “more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead.”
Hawley says that the studio will continue to make games, but will reduce the number of games it makes to focus on higher quality games rather than quantity. It’s never good when a bunch of developers lose jobs, and it often doesnt bode well for the company either.
“I’d like to express our respect for all the contributions that these incredibly talented artists, storytellers and more have made to this company, and that this decision is in no way a reflection on the quality or dedication of their work.” said Hawley. “We have made available our full career assistance services to help our affected colleagues and friends and their families navigate this difficult transition as quickly as possible.”
