AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 Video Card Unboxed and Other Rumors

Our good buddy Rob over at TechGage posted the first unboxing of what appears to be a VEGA 64 video card review sample today. His kit didn’t come with the cool Holocube or silver limited edition VEGA 64 model, but he did get a pretty cool looking VEGA paperweight for those analog moments in life. The reviewers package also gets an early Vega 64 GPU, guide book, RX VEGA stickers and a VEGA wrist band. The retail boxed cards won’t be including some of this stuff, but AMD is commenting and the article appears to have been pulled down. The card itself looks just like the one we showed you a couple weeks back, so nothing new to report on the performance side.

The AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 Air Cooled is priced at $499 and will be available starting August 14, 2017. There are reports that AMD is trying to sell the Radeon RX VEGA 64 for higher than that, but usually pre-launch prices are higher than the MSRP. When the AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB first came out for $199 those that bought the first batch of reference cards got really lucky as there was really 8GB of GDDR5 memory on them that could be unlocked with a vBIOS update and the price shot up from there.

There are also rumors that the AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 could be the best mining GPU ever created with 70-100 MH/s on Ethereum, so that would be bad news for gamers. A stock AMD Radeon RX 580 will get you around 24-25 MH/s and overclocked with custom vBIOS versions you can get it up to around 29MH/s pretty easily. The rumored score on the AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 is higher than anything we have tested in our hunt for the best Ethereum mining graphics card! If you really want an AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 graphics card we suggest getting your ducks in a row as they might go quick between the mining and gaming communities.
