NASA to Broadcast Rocket Launch in 360-degree Video Today

Today marks a first for NASA and this first is very cool for fans of rocket launches. NASA will broadcast the launch that happens today at 11:11 a.m. ET in 360-video. The special presentation is meant to make people viewing from afar feel as if they are standing on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral.

The rocket launching is a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket that will be transporting supplies to the ISS. The launch is scheduled for a 30 minute window that starts at 11:11 a.m. There could be delays with the launch though depending on weather or other issues with the rocket. Typically people have to stand miles away from the launch pad during a launch, this launch is what NASA calls a pads-eye view.

The Atlas V rocket will be carrying a Cygnus spacecraft with over 7,600 pounds of scientific research, crew supplies, and other materials. The 360 video can be viewed with VR goggles to allow the user to look around and see whatever view of the launch they want. The 360 video will livestream on the NASA Television YouTube channel starting 10 minutes before liftoff.
