Seagate Personal Cloud 2-bay Home Media Storage Devices Discontinued
Legit Reviews just got confirmation that Seagate is discontinuing the 2-bay Personal Cloud Home Media Storage device that came out in 2015. The Seagate Personal Cloud 2-Bay was a nifty little device designed for the living room that allowed everyone in your household to access a centralized media library and safeguard your important files in one location. We particularity liked the 2-bay model as it allowed for a RAID array to be used. Running the Peronal Cloud 2-bay in RAID 1 (mirror) mode meant that all data gets copied from drive 1 to drive 2 automatically, offering protection against a single drive failure. While it means your data is safer on this consumer-level NAS, it also footprint of the device and of course the cost. The biggest competiror to the Seagate Personal Cloud 2-bay would be the WD My Cloud Mirror that comes set to Mirror Mode (RAID 1) from the factory.
Our sources let us know that low sales were to blame and that Seagate would be focusing on the 1-bay version moving forward. The Seagate Personal Cloud landing page shows all of the Personal Cloud 2 Bay devices as being unavailable for purchase, but some are still available from Amazon. You might need to hurry though as there are just four 4TB 2-bay models available for $280 shipped from a 3rd party that is fulfilled by Amazon. That is the last model available that can be fulfilled by Amazon and it costs slightly less than the WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 that is available for $299.00 shipped. The Seagate Personal Cloud (1-bay) models are also unavailable on Seagate’s site, but are widely available on Amazon.
