CES 2012: ASUS Shows off Two New ROG Intel X79 Motherboards
ASUS Republic of Gamers Rampage IV Formula & Rampage IV Gene
The ASUS Republic of Gamers Intel X79 series of motherboards was limited to a single motherboard until this week at CES 2012. The only board available was the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme. This week ASUS announced that that it is expanding their Intel X79 ROG product stack with the Republic of Gamers Rampage IV Formula and the ROG Rampage IV Gene. The ASUS ROG Rampage IV Formula is an ATX solution while the Gene is a micro-ATX motherboard. There are a number of differences between the Rampage IV Extreme and the Rampage IV Formula. At a quick glance we can see that the formula features four DIMM slots, four PCIe x16 Gen 3.0 slots for AMD CrossFireX and NVIDIA SLI.
ASUS had a video about the Republic of Gamers Rampage IV Formula running during the show. We thought it was a really well done video about the Rampage IV Formula so we thought we would share it with you!
The new ASUS ROG Rampage IV motherboards have the on board audio separated completely from the rest of the motherboard components. This helps keep the EMI to a minimum and keep the audio quality up. The audio codec on the new ASUS ROG Rampage IV motherboards is the SupremeFX III.
ASUS had the ASUS Rampage IV Formula up and running in a system for us to see. The audio moat separation can be seen by the red line that is lit up when the Rampage IV Formula is powered on. ASUS had the Rampage IV Formula up and running at CES 2012, but they were running it with a pair of graphics cards in SLI making it tough to see.
The I/O panel of the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme features four SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports, one PS/2 port for a keyboard or mouse, six audio jacks, a single Gigabit LAN jack, optical SPDIF out, clear CMOS, and the ROG Connect button. The white USB 2.0 port is designed for ROG connect, though it can be used as a standard USB port.
