Sony Now Making Consumer SSDs – SLW-M Series Debuts With Phison S10 Controller
Sony has entered the international SATA III 6Gbps SSD market with a 2.5-inch drive series called SLW-M. The Sony SLW-M SSD series has two drives available right now at two capacity points 240GB (SLW-MG2) and 480GB (SLW-MG4). The 7mm thick Solid-State Drives are rated as having up to 560 MB/s sequential read and 530 MB/s of sequential write speeds. The drives will come with a 9.5mm spacer for those that need the adapter for notebooks as well as a free copy of Acronis True Image 2015 HD for drive cloning.
This drive has features a Phison PS3110 or S10 series controller along with Toshiba A19 TLC NAND Flash memory and a NANYA DDR3L cache chip. While Sony didn’t make the controller or NAND Flash memory they are including the Sony SSD Toolbox software for end users to use for drive management. Sony is placing a 3-year warranty on the drives and exact pricing and availability in North America and Europe is unknown at this time.
The folks over at DIYPC.HK have a review up on this Sony M Series drive if you’d like to take a look. They were able to get sequential read/write speeds at a queue depth of 32 at 563 MB/s and 500 MB/s on the standard CrystalDiskMark benchmark.
