NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880 Video Card Pictured?

Is this partially blurred out image the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880 video card?

A Chinese website called GamerSky has posted what could be the very first images of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880 video card. The site says that the images came from one of their users (zerg1986) and that this card features an early A1 revision GM204 Maxwell GPU. The GPU core is labeled 1421A1, which they think it means that this GPU was made the week of May 19th, 2014 or the 21st week of the year. The images show that the card has 8GB of GDDR5 memory on board, which might shock a few people out there. The images clearly show sixteen SKHynix H5GQ4H24MFR 512MB GDDR5 memory chips on both sides of the card. The chips are R2C speed rated, which means they are able to run 7000MHz in stock form. It looks like the rumor of GeForce GTX 880 4GB base models with an optional 8GB card are not too far off.

The prototype card has three power connectors (Two 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe), so this card should be under 375 Watts when it comes to power consumption. Maxwell is a power efficient architecture, so it will be interesting to see what the performance per Watt ends up looking like when this card comes out. We don’t expect the final card to have three power connectors as NVIDIA usually goes overkill on the early prototypes. The final power numbers would most likely be in the 250-300 Watt range.

Along the top edge of the card there are the usual NVIDIA SLI interconnects. NVIDIA has been using this for many years and it looks like they aren’t going away anytime soon. AMD’s new XDMA Crossfire solution doesn’t need an interconnect, but we have seen some of those cards come out with interconnects, so this doesn’t mean much. We aren’t sure what is under the pixelated ends of the card, but usually when images start leaking it is tough to plug the leak and we expect someone in the know to spill the beans soon. Could that be where an ARM core is located?

In other news GamerSky also announced that the flagship GM210 GPU won’t be launching till Q2 2015. What is GM210? Who knows as pretty much everything about GM200, GM204 and GM210 are all from unreliable sources and leak sits. We won’t even comment on that due to that fact and Q2 2015 is far away.
