EA Brings High Level Physics To Sports Games

By

At E3 today, there was one huge common theme between the new FIFA, NHL, PGA, and Madden NFL: physics. With most, if not all, of the games mentioned running on Frostbite 3, EA’s trying to further the level of ‘realism’ in the games. Quotations are necessary as some of the realism is visible in scenarios that are not. For example, PGA Tour’s new Fantasy mode, where players golf while trying to evade absurd hazards.

FIFA, NHL, and Madden are all adding computational physics to all field players, balls, and pucks. Out of all genres of games, sports one of the best shining examples where physics should have been a mandatory implementation years ago! Now players will get to experience more realistic hits and game engines will be more apt to predict outcomes of what had previously been near misses or bizarre success.
