NVIDIA SHIELD 2 Diagram Found In FCC Filing
It has been assumed by many that NVIDIA would be working on a successor to the SHIELD handheld game console and that one would be released sometime in 2014. NVIDIAs CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang once stated, We should expect a new Shield whenever theres a new Tegra and we create a new Tegra every year. That would mean that there could be a new SHILED coming that is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC processor (Project Logan). Well you might be able to stop assuming a new SHIELD is in the works. There has been an FCC filing for NVIDIA discovered for a new product that looks very SHIELD’ish if we dare say. The overall design of the device does not appear to be very different, but we would think that it is a little slimmer and lighter than the original. That shouldn’t be too tough to do as the original one weighed in at nearly 1.3 pounds, which is pretty chunky. The original Nintendo Gameboy was just 0.9 pounds when it came out in 1989.
The model number used on the new NVIDIA wireless controller is also similar to what NVIDIA used on the first SHIELD. The original NVIDIA SHIELD had the model number P2450 and the device shown on the FCC filings released this week has the model number P2570. We could very well be looking at the NVIDIA SHIELD 2 or whatever NVIDIA ends up calling it. Thanks to Engadget for finding the FCC filing!
