Raspberry Pi Model B Doubles RAM to 512MB – Keeps $35 Price!

By

The ever popular Raspberry Pi ARM-based computer has just had a free upgrade. This little hobby computer comes in a 128MB Model A version and a 256MB Model B version. However, the Raspberry Pi foundation who make it, have been getting requests for a “Model C” version with 512MB RAM to enable general purpose use. This would allow multiple apps to run and embedded JAVA apps in particular, to run more comfortably.

Now, the foundation didn’t want to raise the price, so instead they have simply doubled the RAM on the Model B version to 512MB and continued selling it for $35! Even better, customers who have outstanding orders with their distributors will automatically get the 512MB version, too. A firmware upgrade will be released in the next couple of days to allow the extra memory to be accessed.

I’d like to thank our partners, RS Components and element14/Premier Farnell, and the suppliers, particularly Samsung, Sony and Broadcom, for all their help in delivering a smooth transition to the 512MB. I’m looking forward to seeing what you all get up to with your shiny new Pis.
