Kim Dotcom Claims New Megaupload Will be Invulnerable to Takedown

Megaupload was unceremoniously removed from the internet on one infamous day, January 19 having all its servers and other equipment impounded. Since then, its founder, Kim Dotcom, vowed that the new version of Megaupload will be impervious to legal challenges, having been in talks with his lawyers to help bring this about. He has also confidently tweeted about this, saying:



When challenged about this, he replied “That will be IMPOSSIBLE. Trust me!”

Dotcom isn’t short of big claims, with the next one being a promise that he will rehire all 200+ Megaupload employees who lost their jobs in the wake of the takedown. On top of that, he promised to give them a pay rise too when the new company is up and running. Finally, he promised former Megaupload premium members that they would “have their premium status transferred to the new Mega, with a bonus on top.”


We believe that Dotcom is sincere in these claims. However, he still has massive legal battles to win, since it’s only the US government working on behalf of the big content industries which are on his back, wanting to extradite him to America to stand trial. Once he’s won all these, which will take years, then we’ll see if the new Megaupload truly rises from the ashes. By this we mean it’s quite possible to have a new company set up within a few months, but it will always be under threat from a forceful shutdown until and if all the court battles have been won. It’s also possible that by then, the world will have moved on in some way, potentially making his services irrelevant. Let’s hope Dotcom succeeds in his endeavours.
