Samsung Demoes Series 9 Ultrabook With Awesome WQHD 2560×1440 Display

Close to the end of play on the first official day of IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany, Samsung dropped a small bombshell: an engineering sample of their upcoming 13 inch Series 9 ultrabook. The two standout features were the awesome WQHD 2560×1440 super-high resolution Display, similar to that of the MacBook Pro’s Retina display and the extreme slimness of the design. In fact, due to the beta status of the ultrabook, Samsung hasn’t actually named the display technology used! Also, this design is so new, that Samsung reps had only received it about a week ago and didn’t have much information on it, either.

The ultrabook sports USB 3.0, DisplayPort, micro HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and audio ports, among others. The display has a matte finish, which is very effective against reflections and judging by the viewing angles as the ultrabook was rotated in the video, the screen may well be based on IPS technology, since there was no colour shift or washout visible. Engadget got to have a little play with it and made the video below.

Update 4/21/2015 – Engadget has removed the video from Viddler.
