The Metal Gear franchise has long been considered an amazing series with a fantastic story, so it’s no wonder rumors of a movie have been widespread for years. Well today it is no longer rumor and speculation, it is official. At the Metal Gear Anniversary event in Tokyo, Japan, it was announced that one of gaming’s most influential series will be making its debut on the big screen. Slogans with “Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie” were all over the place alongside Sony Pictures subsidiary Columbia Pictures’ logo. Michael De Luca, who is famous for being the producer on “Boogie Nights” and “Wag the Dog”, was onboard with the original film project back in 2008, but that fell apart.

Instead the new Metal Gear Solid movie will be produced by Avi Arad, who is the man behind the recent Marvel movie productions. “For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters,” Arad said “and video games are the comics of today.” Considering how big the Marvel movies have been, it would appear the Metal Gear Solid movie is in good hands. What do our readers think, will the Metal Gear Solid movie be amazing or a flop?

That movie ultimately fell apart. There was chatter at the time that the reason the movie didnt ultimately come together was a disagreement over budget. Apparently, Konami wanted a big budget production, but didnt feel like it could do Metal Gear Solid with the smaller budget Hollywood offered.
